A non-league football coach has offered to give unsigned academy players a chance to pursue their footballing dreams.
Mahrez Bettache works as a coach for Welling United who is studying for a UEFA B license. He also manages Rising Ballers FC, a team consisting of aspiring youth players aged 16 to 21.
Bettache, 26, posted the opportunity on social media following the death of 17-year-old Jeremy Wisten, a former Manchester City Academy player who took his own life after the club released him.
Bettache tweeted, “Any 16-19yrs old London based ballers who have been released from Professional Academies in the last year.. please message me.” The post has been retweeted over 400 times and over 650 likes.
Rising Ballers FC was formed in 2018 to give aspiring youngsters another chance to sign for professional clubs. Seven out of its twenty players signed contracts last year, with three players joining Premier League teams.
